My Daily, Morning Briefings with AI

One of the habits that I've been trying to build, is to always keep myself up to date with my interests—like what’s new in tech, what’s happening in the companies I’m investing in, and so on. More so, in my day job as an Account Technology Strategist (ATS) at Microsoft, I should be the visionary. I should be one of those people who are ahead, especially when it comes to what's new or happening in tech.

With all that's happening around the world, with all the new technologies being announced left and right, at times, it's a bit hard to keep up, yeah? Because the problem statement here is—how do we learn or know the relevant things that we don't know in the first place?

One of the tools I personally love using is Google News inside Google App

Why? Because Google pretty much has an idea about me, and because they do, they surface news that is actually relevant to my interests. Which kind-of answers the question—how do we learn or know the relevant things that we don't know in the first place? And hey, I get to keep track of the performance of the stocks I'm investing in as a bonus, with very minimal effort.

But honestly at times, this is still not enough. There are more specific questions I still ask myself such as: What's new in Microsoft Azure? What's new in our AI ecosystem? What's new in our AI Workforce and Business Solutions business? What about our competitors? Any groundbreaking new technologies they've announced that I need to be aware of—ahead of my customers? The list goes on.

Lately, I've found myself spending a bit more time in X (formerly Twitter), as surprisingly, it shows me up-to-date relevant news faster. At the same time, I just realized that since I'm intentionally embedding GenAI assistants such as Microsoft (M365) Copilot, Gemini, and ChatGPT into my day-to-day activities, why not use these tools to keep myself up to date?

And that's exactly what I did.

I’ve prompted Google Gemini and Microsoft (M365) Copilot to give me a daily morning briefing on the latest relevant news in tech. This is the prompt that I've used:

Act as my Strategic Research Assistant. Every morning, provide a high-signal briefing tailored to my role as a Microsoft Account Technology Strategist.

Focus Areas:

Microsoft Ecosystem: Top 3 needle-moving updates in Azure, AI Workforce, BizApps, and Security.

Competitive Landscape: Key moves from AWS, Google, Anthropic, OpenAI, and regional players like Alibaba/Huawei.

The 'So What?': For every tech update, provide a one-sentence summary of why this matters to a business leader or customer.

Format: Keep it scannable with bullet points. Use a 'TL;DR' style so I can finish the briefing in under 15 minutes.

What Google Gemini (in this example), specifically, will do is create a scheduled action for you—which you can, of course, always customize.

Also, a useful tip: You can actually use GenAI assistants to further refine the system prompt you use for your AI tool for better quality responses.

With all these configured, every morning at 8:00 AM, I am getting notified by Google Gemini about the relevant news I've specifically asked for:

Last but not least—always, and I mean always, do your own due diligence to validate and verify the information you've captured, because as powerful as these GenAI assistants are, they can still hallucinate.

Overall, this approach has improved how I keep myself up to date. The convenience of having the news 'come to me' rather than searching for it has made this habit stick. I'm also applying the same approach for my stocks and other investments too.

How about you? How are you thinking of using AI to simplify your own daily routines?
